February 2011 just flew by, didn’t it??
What did you achieve in February? What amazing developments were you and your company involved in?
How many great contracts did you win? How many positive changes did you make to the way you and your company do business?
Here’s a look at the 2nd month of 2011 as the construction sector continues to look for some ‘green shoots of recovery’.
The Construction Industry
It was mentioned in the local headlines this month, that it could potentially take 10 – 15 years to get the Ipswich Marina development completed to a satisfactory standard.
Let’s hope not!
Some time ago, I mentioned that foreign investment, predominantly from Asia, could be a big help in getting the property sector back on its feet. In this months Chartered Institute of Marketing‘s magazine The Marketer, Crawley estate agents Joseph Green’s managing director, Kevin Green said, ‘We’ve recently decided to market English properties to Chinese and Japanese property investors.’ Good idea Kevin! Late last year I reported that Chinese investors were buying up central London bargains without even looking at them.
Let’s all hope for a little Eastern promise and an up turn in the property sector. Asia seems to be one of the few places with money to invest!
Once again Construction sector news was mixed, some of the good news came from Galliford Try:
Galliford Try increased its profits by 29 per cent to £17 million in the second half of 2010 on broadly flat turnover of £576m. This is pretty good news given the current economic situation!
Keir also produced some good results and boosted turnover by 9 per cent in the final six months of 2010 compared to the same period a year ago as it began to rebalance its portfolio to increase focus on private sector contracts.
However, it wasn’t all good news, ‘Small construction companies have set out the problems they are facing as four in five wait for signs of an economic recovery’. The smaller companies, as is often the case, are still waiting for improvements in the sector.
We posted a number of interesting articles in February, dealing with various aspects of construction, property development and Social Media.
The growing use of video for Social Media marketing and the use of YouTube and Vimeo seemed to be a recurring topic and perhaps highlighted the growth of video as an effective marketing medium.
26/02/2011 Social Media: Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Alex Trimpe and the new Facebook anthem. We looked at the talents of Alex Trimpe and his outstanding video on YouTube and Vimeo.
23/02/2011 Social Media development: YouTube, Balfour Beatty, Miller Homes and the new Construction Marketing video samples on YouTube. Construction Marketing UK Ltd. produced 2 sample videos to show clients and potential clients, just how cheap and effective video marketing can be.
