Social Media development: The Social Media hub for business professionals! Why LinkedIn has 100,000,000 members!

It doesn’t matter what business sector you belong to, if you’re a professional, you’ve just got to be in LinkedIn!

Why has LinkedIn suddenly got so BIG!!

100,000,000 professional people is quite a crowd!

That’s a lot of business going on, however you look at it!!

Here’s a look at LinkedIn courtesy of Vincos

The State of LinkedIn 2011

I’ve been a LinkedIn member for a long while now and although I’m not on it as often as I used to be in my pre-Blogging days, I still visit regularly.  It’s crazy not to be on LinkedIn whatever business you are in, it costs nothing and other professionals can network with you online.  How perfect is that?  You don’t have to be a complete Social Media advocate or an Internet expert , if you can send an email you can use LinkedIn.  Let’s face it, everyone needs to know what’s happening in their own sector, right?

I enjoy the community on LinkedIn, I’m involved in over 40 groups and being a member has actually created some genuine friendships (not only digital ones!) and many fantastic networking opportunities!  I should also add, that it’s a great place to learn about new developments and hear different opinions and in this fast moving Social Media and digital environment, we ALL need all the help we can get!

I was contacted on LinkedIn recently by Bastein Hillen, CEO of Scan and Target, with his new Oorook system that manages and protects your Facebook brand. This was a great introduction and I would never have known about this if it wasn’t for Bastein searching for Social Media marketing consultants on LinkedIn.  To me this was a breakthrough!  Thank you LinkedIn!

The beautiful Italian Blogosphere by Vincos

If I wasn’t writing about LinkedIn today, I would never have met Vincenzo Cosenza either and I would never have seen the beautiful Italian Blogosphere!  Like many things Italian, Bellisimo!!  Social Media once again proves that it is truly amazing!  I Tweeted Social Media marketer Vincenzo after reading Cindy King‘s Social Media Examiner article on LinkedIn reaching 100,000,000 members.  I knew it was OK to use ‘The State of LinkedIn‘ picture because the code was there to copy,  however, I considered it good manners to ask Vincenzo if I could use the beautiful Italian Blogosphere picture.  In true Social Media style, he said, sure, carry on!  I’m advertising his expertise and his company, kudos to Vincenzo.

Why I started this particular post was to say a HUGE thank you to LinkedIn for providing the new facilities for business on the LinkedIn site.  By chance I updated my company details yesterday and I realised that it is now such a great feature, so much better than before!  I can now mention all Construction Marketing UK’s products and services comprehensively, with pretty much all the possible information a customer could want.

Prior to yesterday, it said that Construction Marketing UK Ltd. was a traditional and Social Media marketing company, offering a host of marketing and branding services predominantly to the construction and property sectors… but now I have descriptions, links, photographs, comments and video!!  That’s pretty good Linkedin!

    Great post Peter!

LinkedIn is a fantastic tool and something people in business should definitely look into if they haven’t already.

It’s interesting to see how they are developing new modules for the generic business professional.

We will continue to tailor the best social media tools and features from the likes of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs, Slideshare and Flickr giving them relevance for the UK Built Environment – http://www.tcn.uk.com

    • Peter says:

Hi Ryan, great to hear from you! I’m still waiting to see who the top tCn Twitter fan is!? I spent nearly a whole day supporting you guys and geeing everyone along, it was actually a fun day! You are 100% right, it’s great to see LinkedIn getting it together, they were a bit complacent for a while and then Quora came along and stirred them. Things are changing so quickly just recently, it is amazing and lots of new stuff almost daily. Exciting times for sure!! I do keep recommending tCn to all the right people!! Take it easy, thanks for the encouragement, all the best, Peter

I am a huge Linkedin fan and I appreciate all the great information you are sharing here Peter. I have to admit that I really didn’t understand how to utilize Linkedin, but within the last 6 months, I enjoy building wonderful connections and learning, discussing and sharing really good business ideas through my groups.

I agree – that every business should look into being on Linkedin and if nothing more, use it to gain information about others in your industry or market niche. I think Linkedin’s platform is so easy to navigate too.

    • Peter says:

Hi Lynn, great to hear from you again and thank you for the positive feedback! I was casually updating LinkedIn when I noticed all the great new features. I couldn’t believe my eyes!! For any company, in any sector, it’s a brilliant platform and I spent most of the evening updating my company details and writing this Blog. I cannot believe that some major companies are still not on LinkedIn!? It seemed only fair to share the good news about these great new features and of course, the more people use these quality Social Media platforms, the better they’ll get! That’s why I keep on about StumbleUpon and Buffer. Great news, excellent business tools for free? Yes please!! Thanks Lynn, great to hear from you, all the best, Peter

  3. Paul Weston says:

    Great post Peter,

An eye opener to anyone who hasn’t quite grasped the concept of LinkedIn yet, and who doesn’t fully understand or appreciate what it can do for your company or personal profile.

I am constantly encouraging people to join LinkedIn and get involved with it regularly, as the benefits soon become apparent.

Looking forward to the next post!

    Paul

    • Peter says:

Hi Paul, nice to hear from you! I hope StumbleUpon is treating you well! I was so pleased to find all the new features, I could quite believe my eyes. For any kind of company, just accidentally finding such a great platform for a little corporate self promotion is fantastic! Imagine if I hadn’t been on LinkedIn?? I can’t believe so many serious business people still aren’t! Thanks for the encouragement Paul, all the very best, Peter (The next post is Social Satire 4, featuring Paris Hilton with a Brian Solis tattoo on her back and a baby that looks like Seth Godin. Some days you’ve just got to have a little fun!)

  4. Kavita says:

Thanks for the informative post Peter. I found this article from blogengage. Every social bookmarking site has it days of popularity. Linkedin has sudden increase of active users. Today more bloggers are keen on linkedin. Thanks for the share.

    • Peter says:

Hi Kavita, thanks for the comments and I glad that you found the post informative. I was absolutely delighted when I saw what LinkedIn was now offering. I cannot believe companies that don’t appreciate quality FREE advertising, especially with an audience of 100,000,000! You don’t have to be a marketing expert or Social Media guru to see that’s a good idea. I would strongly recommend StumbleUpon too and if you have pictures or photographs, use Twitpics. Good to hear from you, stay in touch, best regards, Peter

  5. Marty says:

I’ve been sharing my stuff and other sites in LinkedIn along with the many others for the last few weeks. Like the many other exercises, it is something to spend some measured time with.

    • Peter says:

Hi Marty, loved your Blog post today, great video!! Yes, LinkedIn is a great place to be right now and I can’t really believe that not many other people have seen such a great opportunity to advertise their business services and products. I don’t mind if I’m the only one there for a while! Take it easy Marty, all the best, peter

  6. Hi Peter, I was reluctant to embrace social media, but couldn’t imagine a day without it, now. I love connecting with people around the world, getting to know them and most importantly, helping them find solutions so they can live the life they want and deserve. Thanks for the post , Peter.

    • Peter says:

Hello Julie, thank you for your comments and you are not alone, believe me. Even I was a little reluctant when it came to Twitter, I’d been into LinkedIn and Facebook for ages, but now I don’t know where I’d be without Twitter! I get a lot of people come to this Blog via Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but most from StumbleUpon. Feel free to follow me there, I might be writing a Blog post on a guest site next week about StumbleUpon as I’ve been telling lots of people how good it is and they want to know more. Yes, you are right, Social Media is a wonderful way to connect with people and the Social Media ethos of sharing and helping is very positive and refreshing. I sent a link regarding the latest LinkedIn developments to a woman from one of the Blogging communities I’m a member of and she was over the moon! It took me about a minute and cost me nothing and made her day! That’s all good and I’ve probably got a regular Blog reader too! That’s a good place to be! Thanks Julie and if you’ve anything I can help you with Social Media wise, feel free to ask, our advice is FREE! All the best, Peter
