    Peter,

Really appreciate the link! Looking forward to your spam post as well.

Social media overload is getting out of control. Everyone is vying for the precious minutes of our attention. It seems like everyday there is another site we MUST participate in or be left in the virtual dust. And now, we have to consider how each will impact our Klout score.

Just this evening I was playing with the possibility of adding the Klout badge to my site. They only offer horizontal badges so it really does not fit in but I foresee a time where it will be important to display that as well since Klout has the potential to become a micro-social network as the the +K’s become more influential in your scores. They already impact the degree of how influential you appear to be in a Klout category.

I just don’t know how much more “social” we can continue to be and still live healthy and productive real lives. I suppose that is something each social networker has to determine for themselves. However, I can’t help but think there is a critical mass of how many services can truly survive. I thought Google+ might have brought us to that point but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft brings us.

      Hi Lane,

I’m very happy to see you here and applaud you on your first successful blog post! Nice work and it gets easier and more enjoyable!

Talking of Klout scores mine took a tumble again based on being not in front of my screen ALL day and night! What can we do?? I loaded Buffer too, I guess not enough! However, I read on the Klout blog that a score of 20 is average, so we shouldn’t worry too much.

I’m also juggling between my digital reality and my other reality and I guess we’ll have to see what happens, right? This is all fairly new still and I guess we’re just like pioneers in the wilderness!

All the very best Lane, keep up the good work, Peter

Hey Peter – I agree with your theme on SoMe overload, but for myself I enjoy it so much it doesn’t feel like work or a burden.

YouTube is not part of your Klout score yet. Yes it’s available to be connected, but there is a delay for all accounts until it’s scored. Foursquare just started being “counted” this past week. Facebook Pages and Google+ are set on the Klout schedule next, although Google still needs to get an API out there first.

To Lane’s point, this is all real life. I see IRL and “real life” all the time now. I’m on my computer writing a comment to a blog post and my heart is beating. This is real life. Yes, I know it’s a figure of speech, but we pick and choose what is or isn’t important to us. Our SoMe activities and keeping up with them is real life. If you want to be great in anything it takes up time for sure, but it’s all Real Life.

    Best Regards,
    Steve

    • Peter says:

Hello Steve, great to see you here, thanks for dropping by!

Please don’t get me wrong, I totally love social media, it’s created a whole new world for me that I’m constantly excited by but how are people coping who are complete novices? Their collective heads must be spinning??

Thanks for the Klout score ‘heads up’, much appreciated! I’m connected to hundreds of people but don’t get out that much, nowhere worth telling everyone about, anyway!

As for Real Life, we all have our own interpretations and it’s all very subjective but real life, digital or otherwise is what you make it or what you want it to be. As long as you give it 100% it doesn’t matter too much, right??

Great to see you here and thanks for your thoughts and comments, much appreciated, all the very best, Peter

  3. I’m getting the feeling we are going to need to be choosy, Peter. I think Lance is right – healthy & productive has to mean something other than just hooked onto the internet 24/7, right? It does for me, so it’s a balancing act and that’s why I am particularly enamoured with the early signs on #subjot – I am feeling a little more in control of what I (and my clients) will see and experience there. Long live the filter of “Choice”! As always, fun and thought provoking Peter :-)

    • Peter says:

      Hi Tracy, how’s life??

Yes, yes and yes, we do need to be more selective, it is all a balancing act and Subjot does sound good!

I’m talking to Chris Carella on Friday about an interview, all thanks to you!!

I’m glad you enjoyed the post, great to hear from you, all the very best, Peter

Wheee…. the social media roller coaster is a ride we are all enjoying, maybe even getting addicted but it sure can make your head spin!

Love all the links you share here Peter. Just another task to hand off to my VA!! But I did check out (over the weekend) the tag.connect.me which is quick and adds some great shout outs to your favorite followers and fans.

I appreciate you linking back to my post Peter, and still getting some great feedback. As you say, it is a time to figure out what is most important to you and your business which will determine what social platforms are best.

Always enjoy your articles as you share lots of great information. I wonder how it will change once Google+ rolls out their platform for businesses? Should be lots of interesting discussions.

    • Peter says:

      Hello Lynn,

Good to hear from you again and I guess this post was really a continuation of our previous discussion, hence the link and mention!

Everyone seems to be focusing (quite rightly) on being more selective but we can’t ignore new stuff and that’s part of the issue. A digital catch 22, places like Social Media Examiner are a big help and Cindy King’s articles on new platforms/technology are essential reading. Maybe that’s my vocation??

I’m looking forward to see Google+ business pages too!!! :)

I’m glad you liked the article, all the very best, Peter

  5. Hi Peter,

It seems like I have a lot to cope with all of these (social media) overload. Some of the social media sites you mentioned are new to me.lol I have a lot to learn and I will surely visit the links you shared here. Thanks for this very informative post as well. :)

    • Peter says:

Hello Vie, good to hear from you, thanks for your time.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post and it seems that most people are just sticking with what they know because they don’t have time to learn everything new!

We shall see if things slow down or not!

      All the very best, Peter

I feel like it’s coming down to a choice of two things for me: social networking or actually getting stuff done. So many social networks out there, so many interactions to be had.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) I have to start being productive and creating so I can actually start making some decent $ I can live off of.

    • Peter says:

      Hi Eugene,

Good to see you here!! I could not agree more!!

It’s great all this new stuff, I’m loving it, but I don’t have time to take it all in as much as I’d like to!!

I need 20 assistants and the resources to go with them!

Great to hear from you, all the very best, Peter

  7. Jon Cassidy says:

I said the other day I didn’t use multiple blog sites for two reasons exclusivity and time. For me it’s about creating original content that others like and not constantly talking about content others have made.

New site Klout should add? well surely to get your true networking score it should be about content and engagement as well as the network so Soundcloud/Mixcloud and if not iTunes (I doubt Apple would allow it) then the likes of Podbean and other podcast providers so your Klout score can be truly be determined by content and a score for engaging maybe given by other users thus rewarding those of us that like to talk to our followers.

    what do you think?

    • Peter says:

      Hi Jon,

      Good to hear from you,

It seems that Klout are adding a host of other sites, you know about Foursquare and YouTube, well now there’s also Instagram, Tumblr, Blogger, Last fm, Flickr, and possibly WordPress, Quora, Facebook pages, Posterous and Yelp. That’s quite a list!

I would also like to see Empire Avenue added as that really is an indication of social media usage and connectivity.

Good to hear from you, all the very best, Peter

  8. Ileane says:

Hi Peter, just wanted you to know that I submitted this to Blog Engage and it’s doing well over there. I hope you see some traffic from it. Cheers!

    • Peter says:

      Hello Ileane,

Thanks so much, I did take a look and saw it doing good and I’m very grateful. As you know whenever I get the chance I do some reciprocal supporting!

Great to hear from you, hope all is well.

      Very best regards, Peter
